Intute is a free directory of web resources that is maintained at Mimas of the University of Manchester and funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the UK, but Intute halted updates in July 2011 due to reduced funding, although the resource directory is still available until 2014. Intute was originally known as the Resource Discovery Network (RDN), and the program moved to Mimas at the University of Manchester in 2003. Intute was created by a consortium of seven UK universities, and the new site was launched in 2006.
After the July 2011 closure of the Intute program, the site remains available for three additional years without any maintenance, updates, or additional resources added to the site. See the FAQ section on the Intute website for more information on what services are still available and what alternative options have been considered to maintain the site services.
Users can browse through web resources by selecting a subject and browsing through hierarchical lists of subcategories or alphabetical lists of CABI subject headings. Users can also search through a quick keyword search form or an advanced search form, which allows the user to search within specific fields, limit the search by subject area or resource type, select a country of origin for the results, and select to sort the results by relevance or alphabetically.
The result list includes a detailed description of the website below each link, and the user can select to view more details (title, description, keyword, type, URL, classification, resource creator, country of origin, etc) on each website record.
