PASCAL is a scientific and technical literature file produced by a French institution - the Institut de l'Information Scientifique et Technique (INIST) of the French National Research Council (CNRS). Subject coverage of PASCAL includes:[1]

  • Medical, Pharmaceutical and Psychological Sciences
  • Life Sciences, Biology
  • Engineering Sciences
  • Physics and Mathematics
  • Earth and Space

More than 17.1 million records are included in the database, covering 1977 to present, and about 10,000 citations are added to the file weekly.[2] PASCAL records include bibliographic information, abstracts, and indexing, including the article's original title, an English translated title and, in most cases, a French title.[2] Sources of records in PASCAL include:[2]

  • Reports
  • Conference proceedings
  • Books
  • Theses (mainly French)

The file includes a list of over 80,000 controlled vocabulary terms in English, French, (in some cases) Spanish, and German descriptors provided in the area of metallurgy.[2] It is available on Dialog Classic, STN, Ovid, and Questel on Imagination. The file number for PASCAL on Dialog is 144.[3]
