Introduction is a free US patent download website supported by volunteer programmers, with the command line program created by Oren Tirosh.[1] Users can download copies of patent documents from the USPTO by entering a number or series of patent numbers (separated by semicolons) into a search form on the site and selecting the "Fetch Patent" button. US patent document types that users can download include:[1]

  • US Utility Patents
  • US Pre-Grant Publications
  • US Design Patents
  • US Plant Patents
  • US Reissues
  • US Statutory Invention Regulation

The correct format for inputting each document type number is listed above the document search form. After submitting the document number(s), the website will retrieve the documents (which may take a few moments, depending on the number of patents downloaded). Users will then be provided with a list of links to view the PDF patent documents.

Users can also link to PDF patent documents, according to the site:[1]

To link to a patent, please use the following format: where XXXXXXX is the patent number.

User Experiences

This is a great site for searchers. It emails the user one or more U.S. patent PDF documents. This free service has been available for years, and it is worth making a PayPal donation if you find it useful.

Be sure to use the .org address because the .com address is an entirely different pay per use service.
