Three types of images are available through Espacenet, but as with the other types of data coverage, completeness, quality, and timeliness of the data depends on the contributing patent offices.

Representative images: For documents that meet PCT minimum documentation requirements, a thumbnail representative image is often shown next to the document abstract (when available). This image is usually taken from the document front page, which is usually either the representative image proposed by the applicant, or has been chosen by the examiner as representative of the subject invention.

Drawing mosaics: One unique feature of Espacenet is the availability of drawing mosaics produced by the European Patent Office (EPO). The mosaics are reduced-size patent drawings presented six to a page; the system hosts these drawing mosaics for many of its patent documents. Drawing mosaics are principally useful for scanning a set of patent drawings without having to load each separate drawing page in the Espacenet PDF viewer. Many commercial search services provide links to these free mosaics as well.

PDF document images: Finally, complete document PDF copies are hosted on Espacenet, and may be downloaded individually (page limits may apply - see Downloads for more information). For many documents in the system, Espacenet hosts the original document image as a PDF; when original document images are not available, the system will substitute the image of a close family member, if possible. Users can also download up to 30 original covers of the patent documents in the results list into one PDF file.
