The Command Line Interface
Espacenet does not offer a command line interface. However, there is at least one way to modify an Espacenet search by using qualifying terms in addition to normal search terms within the classification search fields. To accommodate all the various types of IPC-8 class codes, there are several Espacenet field qualifiers that can be input as modifiers into the IPC classification search field. These are:
- c: selects IPC core level
- a: selects IPC advanced level
- ci: selects IPC core level, invention information
- cn: selects IPC core level, additional information
- ai: selects IPC advanced level, invention information
- an: selects IPC advanced level, additional information
- c: selects IPC core level
For example, in the Advanced search form:
- A search on (ci: G11B5/62) will return hits with G11B5/62 indexed as the Core IPC class.
- A search on (ci: G11B5/62) will return hits with G11B5/62 indexed as the Core IPC class.
- A search for (an:G11B5/84) will return hits with G11B5/84 indexed as an Advanced Non-Invention IPC class.
The SmartSearch might also be considered a command line interface for Espacenet, since multiple field identifiers can be utilized in a single search form, Boolean operators and parentheses can be used to alter the search, and truncation and wildcard operators can also be used within the form.
