Other Indexing

In addition to Medical Subject Headings (also known as MeSH terms, discussed here), MEDLINE has occasional additional indexing in the following categories:

  • humans or animals distinction (with further distinction for some animals)
  • gender
  • language
  • journal and record subsets (includes specific topics such as AIDS)
  • type of article (e.g. editorial)
  • age (e.g. child, 6-12 years)

Some of the additional indexing can be seen in the search limiting options in EBSCOhost.
