Family Data

Family data in PatBase is created using INPADOC family definitions, and the EPO’s bibliographic data. PatBase families are based on “extended” INPADOC rules, which are more generous than the smaller “complex” INPADOC families: instead of creating families where each member shares at least one common priority date, extended families require that one member must share a common priority with at least one other member.

Bibliographic, legal status and full text information for each family member can be viewed in-depth through the Family Explorer page, available for every record in the database. More about how to view family data is included in the Family Search Features section of this article.
