Introduction

PatBase Express full text data coverage is comparable to that provided by many other commercial services: The database offers full text records for the United States (US), Patent Cooperation Treaty (WO/PCT), European Patent Office (EP), United Kingdom (GB), Germany (DE), and France (FR). A major source of family and bibliographic data coverage is data produced by the European Patent Office (EPO), so the coverage is equal to or better than that of the free online source esp@cenet. Notably, PatBase augments many records by providing searchable English abstracts created by machine translation. These abstracts are intended to be temporary search aids, to be replaced by higher-quality translations or English-language family members as soon as they become available. The machine translation process is ongoing, with new records added everyday.
