Search Capabilities
IPC code searching: Yes; Locarno class searching and German classification searching (DEKLA) are available in the PatBase system, but not PatBase Express.
US Classification searching: Yes
ECLA code searching: Yes
Japanese F-terms or File Indexing: No; F-term and FI searching is available in PatBase only. PatBase also offers “improved” English translation of the F-terms and F-Index class definitions, including English-language definitions for the “eighteenth theme.”
Date-limited searching: Yes; date fields include Published/Filed/Priority.
Section-specific Text Searching (i.e. a search in “claims only”?): Yes
Country/Collection-specific searching: Yes; country/collection-specific searching is available by limiting search by publication country code. Separate interface for US only searching also available.

Saving Results
Saving Results Sets: Yes; only one saved results set is available. See the Flagging Results section. Users can also view shared folders saved on PatBase.[1]
Flagging Individual Results: Yes; each result can only be placed into the “My List” folder.
Saving Search Histories:

Not possible, although the search history for the current session is temporarily saved and viewable via the drop-down menu on the Advanced and Boolean search forms when the user selects to combine the current search with a previous search query.[1]
Analyzing Results
Statistical Analysis: Yes; the Snapshot tool allows users to view a statistical breakdown for the first 2,500 results in a set based on publication year, country code, IPC code, assignees/applicants, and US classification codes.[1]
Other (In-program) Analysis tools: Yes; the Visual Explorer tool allows users to generate an interactive visualization of top keywords, applicants, or IPC classes for the first 2,000 records in a result set.[1]
Import/Export/Document Delivery
PDF document delivery:

Individual only. Select the title or PDF icon of individual patent documents in the family table for a record, and the user can view and download the PDF version of the document through Minesoft's PatentOrder (depending on the user's subscription). It also appears that some PDF documents are obtained through Espacenet.
Data Export: Yes; results from the “My List” folder can get exported in many commonly used formats: DOC, RTF, HTML, PDF, CSV, XML, XLS, MHT, RIS, or BizInt Smart Charts Data File.
Data Import: No, although shared folder from PatBase can now be viewed on PatBase Express.[2]
Alerts
Alerts: Yes; RSS feed can be created using many of the common RSS feed viewers to view the week's search results.[1]
Customer Support
Online Help Guide:

Cursory. Online guide describes how to use the different search forms and result viewing features, but does not describe many of the advanced PatBase commands that may work in the search forms.
Web Seminars: Yes; a recorded tutorial video on using PatBase Express is available through a link at the bottom of the PatBase Express screen.
Live Help: Yes; live help is provided from Minesoft headquarters in London. Business hours are 9 am to 5:30 pm, GMT.
Security
Automatic Logoff: Yes; users are automatically logged off after 20 minutes of inactivity.[1]
Secure Connection Option: Yes, defaults to secure connection.
