The www.patentanalysis.com search portal has closed as of April 2010. The company is now only providing XML data from the New Zealand IPONZ collection.

Legal Status Information

PatentAnalysis.com contains full legal status data for its New Zealand collection; however none of the other PatentAnalysis.com databases contain legal status information. This is especially odd regarding the INPADOC file, which traditionally does contain detailed legal status data.

PatentAnalysis.com provides a detailed legal status history for their New Zealand documents. Each record lists the dates of filing, registration, renewal, abandonment and other legally relevant events in the life of an New Zealand patent application. This status data is searchable from both the Boolean Search form as well as the Form Search. The screenshot below depicts an example of legal status data from a sample New Zealand record.

Legal status data for New Zealand documents includes information on renewal dates and objections.

editors note iconEditor's Note:

The legal status data provided by PatentAnalysis.com for New Zealand patents is significantly more detailed than the corresponding data from INPADOC. For example, PatentAnalysis.com captures legal actions such as the date the application was accepted or when a party filed for a name change. Additionally, PatentAnalysis.com provides a much wider range of New Zealand patents, with legal status available as far back as 1980. Searchers interested in detailed New Zealand legal status will find PatentAnalysis.com a valuable resource. Our testing revealed one caveat: there is substantial lag time between when INPADOC records an action and when PatentAnalysis.com records the same action. No PatentAnalysis.com record we examined featured any legal status data more recent than about 12 months ago.

Above, legal status for a New Zealand patent as provided by PatentAnalysis.com. Below, the same patent's legal information as provided by INPADOC through esp@cenet. PatentAnalysis.com offers a significantly greater level of detail, however, in this example, the INPADOC record appears to be more up-to-date.
