Viewing Patent Citations

PatentAnalysis.com makes available backward citation data for the US granted patent database only. None of the databases contain forward citation data.

The US granted database is the only collection within PatentAnalysis.com that offers any type of citation coverage. This database contains a field titled “Referenced by:” which implies that the publication numbers listed would represent forward citations, in other words, documents that were published after the target document and that refer back to the target document. Instead, this field actually lists backward citations, meaning those that the target document is referencing. The screenshot below shows the citation data as it is integrated with the document record.

The citations on a patent are listed (and hyperlinked) within the Referenced By field.
