Searchable Datafields
Patent Lens users can search the following fields:
- publication number
- filing number
- full text
- front page
- title
- abstract
- inventor
- applicant/assignee
- agent
- title or abstract
- references
- claims
- description
One major limitation is that classifications of any kind are not searchable within Patent Lens. Classifications are also not available to be browsed in Patent Lens. The available searchable data fields, plus others such as classification are included in the exported RIS data mentioned in the Export Functions section.
Editor's Note:Patent Lens has searchable fields for almost every field included in a patent. The notable glaring omission is the lack of ability to search classifications. This is an important tool to find prior art related by subject matter when keyword searching alone may not suffice. Free patent search systems such as Google Patent Search and FreePatentsOnline have the ability to search by classification, and this feature puts them a step ahead of Patent Lens in that regard.
