Flagging Results

Flagging results is done in Thomson Innovation by using a feature called "Marked Lists." A marked list may be used to compile a temporary list of records from a number of different result sets or work files, then add them to a work file or save them as a new one. Alternatively, a user may add records to the marked list so that they may be examined more closely later, before saving them to a work file.

Note: Unlike a work file, which may contain only records of the same type, the marked list may contain patent, literature, and business collection records all at once. Note that if you wish to save the contents of the marked list as a Thomson Innovation "Work File," you will need to save each record type into a separate work file.[1]

When viewing a result set, selected records may be added to a marked list by selecting "Add to Marked List" from the result set toolbar.

Marked List Results View

After you have added the selected records to the marked list, their checkboxes on the result set are surrounded in yellow. This confirms that these records are now on the marked list.

Users can also add records to the marked list directly from the Record View (Quick View or Full View) by selecting the "Mark Record" option in the Record View toolbar or choosing the "Mark and Next" option at the bottom of the window. The "Mark and Next" option will automatically add the record to the marked list and move on the next full record view. If a record has already been added to the marked list, then the user will have the option to "Unmark Record" in the Record View Toolbar and "Unmark and Next" in the bottom navigation menu.

Select "Mark and Next" to move on to the next record and add the document to the marked list simultaneously.

If the record is already on the marked list, the user has the option to "Unmark."

Users can annotate any selected record within a marked list or work file. See the Saving Results section for more details about work files.
